Was signed by Ed Crosby...played Little League baseball in the West Covina area...graduated from South Hills High School (1989) in West Covina...lettered three seasons in baseball, three in basketball and two as a quarterback in football earning all-league honors in each sport...was the league basketball MVP his senior season...drafted by Milwaukee (43rd round) out of high school but elected to attend Long Beach State University where he played baseball and majored in business...was the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year in 1990 and earned all-league first team honors twice...as a sophomore led the Big West Conference in hitting with a .407 average and for his college career hit .397...was a member of the 1991 All-College World Series team....was a member of the bronze medal winning U.S. baseball team at the 1991 Pan Am Games in Havana, Cuba, and a member of the U.S. Olympic club that competed in Barcelona in the summer of 1992...lists offroading and the WWF as two of his hobbies...launched "Operation Gumby" in 1999 which reaches out to children across the country to deal with the issue of bed-wetting...is also a spokesman for CAP Cure which helps raise money and awareness in the fight against prostate cancer...has also sponsored the Oakland Special Olympics Soccer Team and is involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters...received the Dave Stewart Community Service Award and the Fred Hutchinson Award in 2000...grew up a Yankees fan and his favorite baseball player is Mickey Mantle...brother Jeremy plays for the Red Sox.
